History
During the fighting of the 1960s and 1970s, American forces needed winning new technology. In 1970, American ingenuity and style came together to create one of the most famous fighting machines in history, the F-14 fighter. This modern marvel combined unprecedented acceleration with incredible agility. No other nation in the world had anything to match the F-14. Regardless of the weather, visibility, or altitude, the F-14 amazed anyone lucky (or unlucky) enough to witness it. However, revolutions are not always appreciated. Vice Admiral Thomas Connolly had to fight tooth and nail, risking his reputation and his career, to win government support for the F-14. Its dedication to innovation has been rewarded, not only by the story, but also by the success of this extraordinary aircraft. Vice Admiral Connolly was nicknamed after the F-14's christening as "Tomcat", his World War II codic name. During its more than 35 years, Tomcat has inspired fashion, mechanics, movies and even fictional characters. The Tomcat is a long-time favorite mascot of this iconic fighter jet, as they are both "agile night fighters". In the spirit of American ingenuity, Top Gun aims to combine the combination of functionality and style for a winning choice once again.
